Methi Dal / Menthe Soppina Tovve


Tovve in Kannada means Dal. This dal is super delicious and nutritious too. Goes well with roti, hot rice and ghee.

Fenugreek Leaves/ Menthe Soppu/ Methi
Toor Dal
Green Chillies
Turmeric Powder
Tamarind Pulp
Jaggery
Salt

Urad Dal
Cumin Seeds
Red Chilli
Asafetida

Method
1.        Chop fenugreek leaves and its stems finely.
2.       Slit the green chillies lengthwise.
3.       Cook dal separately in a pressure cooker.
4.       Heat a pan with oil, add mustard let it splutter now add urad dal, cumin seeds and red chilli.
5.       To this add chopped leaves and slit green chillies.
6.       Cook it on a medium to low heat, keep sautéing once in a while.
7.       Cook for at least 20 minutes.
8.       Add salt, tamarind pulp, turmeric powder and jaggery according to your taste.
9.       Sauté for a minute.
10.    Mix both dal and cooked leaves.
11.     Cook for another 10 minutes.
12.    Menthe Soppu tovve ready to be served.
