Spicy Poha / Khara Avalakki


Khara Avalakki
One more delicacy from Udupi. I usually prepare both Khara Avalakki (Spicy Poha) and Sihi Avalakki (Sweet Poha) and serve them together (like Chow Chow Bath combination of Upma and Shira). Khara Avalakki can either be enjoyed with thick Curd or just as is.

Thin Poha
Grated Coconut
1 Cup
½ Cup
To Grind
Coriander Seeds
Green Chillies
Salt
Sugar

Seasoning
Mustard
Urad dal
Oil
Curry Leaves
1 Tsp.
1 Tbsp.
1 Tbsp.
1 Tbsp.
Method
1.  Coarsely grind the ingredients “To Grind” in a blender.
2.  Add the coarsely ground powder into a vessel and add grated coconut and mix well with your hand.
3.  Now add Thin Poha to this vessel and mix well again.
4.  Prepare seasoning with the “Seasoning” ingredients and add to the Poha and mix well again.
5.  Khara Avalakki is ready to enjoy.
