Chana Dal Gravy For Pongal


A good combination for pongal. Spicy and tangy gravy made with roasted chana dal and pepper.

Chana Dal
Pepper
Dry Red Chillies
Jaggery
Tamarind Paste
Salt

Seasoning
Mustard
Oil
Curry Leaves

Method
1.   Dry roast Chana Dal, Pepper and dry red chillies together until the Chana dal changes color.
2.   Let it cool and powder this mixture in a blender.
3.   Heat oil in a pan and season with the “Seasoning” ingredients.
4.   Add ½ to ¾ cup of water to the seasoning. To this add tamarind and jaggery. Let this boil for 5 minutes. Now add the powdered mixture and cook well. Adjust tamarind and jaggery according to your taste. Adjust consistency again based on your taste.
5.   Serve with Pongal!
