Toor Dal Ki Khichdi

 Here is a another variety of khichdi -Toor dal khichdi. Previously I have posted moong dal and split moong dal khichdis. Adding whole spices to the khichdi enhances the flavor and taste of this khichdi.

Toor Dal
Chopped Onion
Grated Ginger
Bay Leaves
Cumin Seeds
Ghee / Oil
Garam Masala Powder (optional)
Turmeric Powder (optional)

1.  Wash rice and dal together and drain and set aside.
2.  Heat a ghee/oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and fry for few seconds. Now add the whole spices one by one and fry not more than a minute. The heat on low to medium.
3.  Add finely chopped onion and fry for 2-3 minutes. Add grated ginger and fry for 2 minutes.
Note: At this point you can add turmeric powder and garam masala and fry for a minute.
4.  Now add the washed rice and dal and fry for 2-3 minutes.
5.  Cook the Kichidi in a pressure cooker by adding 3 cups of water. If you want it more mushy add some extra water. Add salt while cooking the kichidi. Cook till 3 whistles.
6.  Serve hot kichidi garnished with coriander leaves.
