Huruli Saaru / Horse Gram Rasam


 Horse Gram rasam is a very tasty and a healthy rasam. Horse gram has lot of protiens in it. The lentils are cooked and the water filtered is used to make the Rasam and the drain lentil I used to make salad (usli).
Huruli saru can be simply enjoyed with plain rice and ghee !!

Ingredients
Horse gram
Green Gram
Grated Fresh Coconut
Tomato
Tamarind paste
Jaggery
Salt

For Seasoning
Mustard
Ghee
Asafetida
1 Tsp.
1 Tsp.

Method
1.     Mix both the gram and cook with lot of water in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles. Simmer the stove and cook for 10-15 minutes.
2.     Filter the water and separate cooked gram. Save the cooked gram for later use to make a salad.
3.     Now in a small mixer jar add a tbsp. of cooked gram, grated coconut and tomato and grind it to smooth paste.
4.     Meanwhile take the filtered water in a large pot and add tamarind paste, turmeric powder, jaggery and salt. Let it boil.
5.     To this add the ground paste and a spoon of rasam powder and let it boil. Add curry leaves and coriander leaves and boil for 5 more minutes.
6.     Do the seasoning and pour it over the rasam.
